Plainly: I do not have an office in Bogotá and I am not a large agency. I work from Medellín, by video call, and the person you talk to is the person who does the work. If you want the broader method first, it is on the SEO consultant home page.
Who is this page for?
Two kinds of companies. Foreign businesses, often from the US, that are entering Colombia through Bogotá and need Spanish search done right with reporting in English. And Bogotá companies that want an English-speaking SEO partner for a US or international site. In both cases the work is remote, by video call.
Most searches for an SEO agency in Bogotá come from Colombian businesses, and I answer those in Spanish on a separate page. This one is for the English-speaking side of the market: a regional manager in Miami who has to launch a Colombian site, or a Bogotá software company selling to the US. My SEO consulting service covers both, and this page explains how it works for Bogotá.
What is different about SEO in Bogotá?
Bogotá is Colombia's largest market, so most searches have more competitors than in other Colombian cities. It is also a big, spread-out city, and Google's map results weigh how far each business is from the person searching. A single office rarely shows on the map across the whole city, so your website must carry more of the load.
Google lists three factors for local results in its local ranking help page: relevance, distance and prominence. Distance is how far each business is from the searcher, and you cannot change it. A clinic in the north of the city will struggle to appear in the map pack for someone searching from the south. Organic results, the ten blue links under the map, depend much less on that distance. That is why, in Bogotá, I usually put more effort into strong service pages than into the map alone.
The second difference is intent. Many Bogotá companies sell to the whole country, so their best keywords do not include the word Bogotá at all. A B2B firm should rank for what it sells across Colombia, and keep Bogotá for the searches that are truly local.
How should a foreign company launch Spanish search in Colombia?
Write the Colombian pages in Spanish from the start, using the words Colombians search with, not a translation of your US keywords. Put them in their own folder, link each pair with hreflang, and set up a Google Business Profile only for a real Colombian address. Then measure leads from Colombia separately from your US numbers.
Google's guide to localized versions of your pages explains how hreflang pairs work. The content side matters more: Colombian Spanish uses its own words for many products and services, and a page written for Mexico or Spain can miss them. I research those terms in keyword research before any page is written.
How the remote service works
- Free 30-minute diagnosis by video call, in English or Spanish.
- Access as a user to Search Console, Analytics and your Business Profile, never ownership. Your accounts stay yours.
- A written plan with priorities, owners and how each one is measured.
- Video check-ins during the working day. Colombia stays on UTC-5 all year, as timeanddate.com shows: the same clock as US Eastern in winter and US Central in summer.
- A monthly report in plain language, in the language your managers read.
What should you ask any SEO agency in Bogotá?
Ask to see past work with real data, how they follow Google's rules, what results to expect and when, who will actually do the work, and how they report. Walk away from anyone who guarantees the first position. Google itself says that no one can guarantee a number one ranking.
- Google's page Do you need an SEO? lists the questions to ask and warns against guaranteed rankings.
- Ask whether city or neighborhood pages will have real content. Copies with the name swapped are doorway pages under Google's spam policies.
- Ask who owns the accounts. Your Search Console, Analytics and Business Profile should be in your company's name.
- Compare options in consultant vs agency vs in-house.
How much does SEO for a Bogotá company cost?
The same as anywhere: monthly plans at $1,000, $1,750 or $2,500, an SEO audit from $450, and consulting at $25 an hour for teams that do the work themselves. Every engagement starts with a free 30-minute diagnosis and plans have a 3-month minimum term.
Start with an SEO audit if you are not sure what is holding the site back, or with SEO consulting if you have a team and need direction. See the pricing page or book a free diagnosis.
Frequently asked questions
Do you have an office in Bogotá?
No. I work from Medellín and meet clients in Bogotá by video call, in the same time zone.
Can you report in English to a US head office?
Yes. Reports and calls can be in English, Spanish or both, so the local team and the head office read the same numbers.
Do I need a Colombian domain?
Not necessarily. A Spanish folder on your main domain often works well. The right choice depends on your brand and legal setup in Colombia.
Can you work with my Bogotá agency?
Yes. I can review what they deliver as a second opinion, or handle technical SEO while they manage content and ads.
Do you guarantee first-page rankings?
No. Nobody can honestly guarantee rankings. I commit to the work, clear priorities and transparent reporting.
