Car dealership SEO from someone who works on 600+ dealer sites.

Buyers compare three or four dealers online before they visit one. I make sure your inventory, your rooftop and your service department show up first, with pages that turn searches into calls and appointments.

What does dealership SEO include?

Dealership SEO covers the pages that sell cars and service: vehicle detail and search results pages, model research pages, a Google Business Profile for each department, service and parts pages, dealer and vehicle schema, and visibility in AI answers. The goal is simple: more VDP views, more calls and more service appointments from local buyers.

It is the same method I describe on the SEO consultant home page, applied to one of the most demanding types of local business.

Why is SEO for car dealers different?

Dealer websites carry thousands of vehicle pages that appear and disappear every day, usually on closed platforms with limited control. Groups run several rooftops that compete for the same searches, manufacturer rules restrict content, and buyers compare many sites before visiting. Generic SEO playbooks miss most of this, so experience matters.

Buyers are changing how they shop, too. Cox Automotive's Car Buyer Journey study found that 25% of new-vehicle buyers used AI tools during the process. And Google has announced it is winding down its organic vehicle listings program, so your own website and Business Profile carry even more weight.

What I work on for dealerships

Inventory and model pages

VDP and SRP templates that rank, model research pages and clean handling of sold units.

Local SEO per rooftop

Business Profiles for sales, service and parts, with categories, photos, posts and reviews.

Service and parts pages

Fixed-ops pages that bring profitable local searches all year, not just when inventory is hot.

Dealer and vehicle schema

AutoDealer and Car markup, so search engines understand each store and each unit.

AI search visibility

Entity and content work so AI answers mention your store when buyers ask for recommendations.

Platform-ready changes

On closed dealer platforms, exact change requests for their support team, followed up until done.

The technical base is covered in technical SEO, and the rooftop work in local SEO and Google Business Profile. For schema I use the AutoDealer and Car types, and Google confirms that standard SEO best practices are what earn visibility in its AI features.

How does SEO work for dealer groups with several rooftops?

Each rooftop needs its own Business Profile, location page and review flow, but the stores must not compete for the same searches. I map brands, cities and departments to one store each, keep names and addresses consistent under Google's guidelines, and report results per rooftop so group managers see which stores grow and why.

Business Profiles follow Google's guidelines for representing your business: one profile per real location and department where allowed, with no keyword stuffing in the name.

What results should a dealership measure?

Measure what the showroom and the service lane feel: VDP views from organic search, calls and form leads, direction requests, service appointments and Business Profile actions. Rankings matter only when they move those numbers. Monthly reports should compare rooftops and show what changed, what was done and what comes next.

  • Organic VDP views and SRP entrances by make and model.
  • Calls, chats and form leads from organic and Maps.
  • Service and parts appointments from search.
  • Business Profile views, calls and direction requests per rooftop.

How much does dealership SEO cost?

Dealerships use the same monthly plans as any business: $1,000, $1,750 or $2,500 per rooftop per month, depending on inventory size, departments and competition. Dealer groups get a custom quote. Every engagement starts with a free audit of one rooftop, so you see the opportunities before you commit.

Frequently asked questions

Do you work with closed dealer website platforms?

Yes. When I cannot edit the site directly, I prepare precise change requests for the platform's support team and follow them up until they are live.

Can you handle dealer groups with many rooftops?

Yes. Each rooftop gets its own local SEO and Business Profile work, coordinated so stores do not compete with each other.

Do you optimize service and parts pages?

Yes. Fixed-ops pages are some of the most profitable local searches a dealer can win, and they bring customers all year.

Will you name the dealers you work with?

No. Client work is confidential. I can show anonymized results and walk you through the process on a call.

Can we start with one rooftop?

Yes. A single rooftop is the recommended start, beginning with a free audit.
