Can anyone guarantee you the first spot on Google?
No. Google says it plainly: no one can guarantee a number one ranking, and anyone who promises it is a warning sign. What a good SEO can promise is a clear plan, honest reporting and steady work on the things Google rewards. Rankings follow that work, usually over months, not days.
That line comes from Google's own guide, Do you need an SEO?. Keep it in mind when you compare offers. The rest of this page is what actually moves a business up, and what I do for clients on the SEO consultant side of this site.
How does Google decide who ranks first?
Google looks for the page that best answers the search, from a site it can crawl and trust. In practice that means three things: the page must be technically reachable, its content must match what the person wants better than the alternatives, and other sites and customers must show that your business is real and reliable.
| What Google needs | What it means for your site | Typical problem I find |
|---|---|---|
| Access | Google can crawl and index the page | Pages blocked, redirected in loops or left out of the index |
| Relevance | One clear page per search intent | One page trying to rank for ten services at once |
| Quality | Helpful content written for people | Thin pages copied from a template or a supplier |
| Trust | Reviews, mentions and links from real sites | No reviews answered, no local mentions, no links |
| Experience | Fast, mobile-friendly, easy to act on | Slow pages and a phone number that is hard to tap |
Google's Search Essentials and its guide to helpful, people-first content describe the same principles in their own words.
The order that gets businesses to the top
- 01
Fix what blocks Google
Indexing errors, broken redirects, slow templates and security screens can hide your best pages. I once found a firewall showing a "verifying" screen to every crawler on a clinic's site; after removing it, the average position went from 13.5 to about 9 (case study). This is the work of technical SEO.
- 02
Choose the searches that sell
Not every keyword is worth the effort. I start from what your buyers type, how many search it and how hard it is to win, and pick the ones close to a purchase. That is keyword research.
- 03
Build one strong page per search
A service, a city, a product category: each gets its own page that answers the question better than the pages already ranking.
- 04
Win the map if you serve locally
For "near me" searches, the Google Business Profile often matters more than the website. Google ranks local results by relevance, distance and prominence (Google's local ranking tips). See local SEO.
- 05
Link your pages together
Internal links tell Google which pages matter most. Google can only follow real links, as its link best practices explain.
- 06
Earn trust and measure
Reviews, mentions and links from relevant sites, plus monthly reporting on leads, not only rankings.
What does climbing to the top look like in real data?
It looks gradual, then compounding. On a national directory I led, daily organic clicks went from about 700 to more than 2,300. Across 436 dealerships on my team, the average number of keywords in position one grew from 65 to 119 per store after at least five months of steady work.

How long does it take to rank on the first page?
Technical fixes can show results in a few weeks. New pages for competitive searches usually need three to six months, and the strongest gains come after four to six months of steady work. Google's own starter guide says some changes take hours and others several months, so judge the trend, not one week.
Google's SEO Starter Guide recommends waiting a few weeks before judging a change. I explain realistic timelines in how long SEO takes.
Is ranking first on Google still enough?
It is still the base, but no longer the whole picture. More people now get answers from Google's AI Overviews and assistants like ChatGPT before they click. The same pages that rank well are the ones AI tools cite most, so ranking work and AI visibility work now go together in one plan.

How much does it cost to rank higher on Google?
A one-time SEO audit starts at $450 and shows exactly what blocks you. Monthly plans are $1,000, $1,750 or $2,500, depending on how many pages, locations and competitors are involved. The first step is free: a 30-minute diagnosis where I show you the three changes I would make first.

Frequently asked questions
Can you guarantee I will be number one?
No, and nobody honest can. I commit to the work, the plan and transparent reporting, and I show you progress with real data every month.
Is paying for Google Ads the same as ranking first?
No. Ads appear above the organic results only while you pay. Organic rankings keep bringing visits after the work is done. Many businesses use both.
Do I need a new website to rank higher?
Usually not. Most sites rank higher after fixing technical problems and improving key pages. A rebuild only makes sense when the platform itself is the obstacle.
Can I rank first in my city without a physical office there?
On the map, Google requires a real address or a real service area. On regular results, pages for areas you truly serve can rank if they are genuinely useful.
Do you work with businesses in Colombia and the US?
Yes. I work in English and Spanish with businesses in Colombia, Latin America and the United States.
